Department of Manipuri:

The Department of Manipuri, Cachar College, Silchar is one of the most important organs amongst its Academic Structures of the institution; which facilities to impart for studying of Manipuri Language, Manipuri Folklore, Manipuri Culture as well as Manipuri Literature. The College has started Major Course in Manipuri on 20th October, 1962. Mr. R.K. Surendrajit Singh was appointed as a first lecturer in Manipuri Department. The Department offers two years Higher Secondary (HS) and four years Bachelor Degree Course (B.A) in Manipuri following NEP-2020. The Department has been arranged all the necessary text-books for the students, and students can get require books from Central Library of the College. The College subscribes the online journals, books. So, the students can get require materials also. The academic conditions in terms of faculty, teaching, learning evaluation is healthy and adequate. All the faculty members of the Department are actively involved in all necessary tasks. The teachers of the Department are always available for personal guidance to the students. The College is a constituent unit of the Assam University, Silchar. All the faculty members are very helpful to the students and encourage them for prospects. The teachers of the Department have improved their skill by participating in various Refresher/Orientation Courses, and Seminar/Workshops/Conferences/Symposium and Short-Term-Courses etc. Most of the teachers actively engaged in examinations as examiners, paper scrutinizer, evaluation of papers etc. The Department has been conducted Departmental Seminars for students, and organized Study Tour at various historical places time to time. One Departmental Annual Manipuri Magazine entitled “MEIRA” has been brought to its journey since 1985, and regularly published. Along with teaching, all the faculty members are associated with regular publication in renown journals and all the faculty members are associated with many literary organizations such as Manipuri Literary Society Assam, Cultural Forum Manipur, Manipuri Literary Society Imphal, NaharolSahityaPremiSamity Imphal as a Life Member.
