Department of Commerce:

Commerce as a discipline of study both in the pre-university and Degree courses were started in Cachar College since its inception in the academic year 1960-61. It got its affiliation with Gauhati University in the year 1964-65. From 1994 onwards, the college got affiliated under Assam University, Silchar. This department has a glorious past with a number of students securing positions in the merit list of the university and several others who got placed in reputed positions or pursuing professions like Chartered Accountants, Company Secretaries, Accountants, etc. The department currently offers two years Higher Secondary (HS) and Four Year UG Programme (Bachelor Degree) in Commerce following NEP 2020 guidelines. At Higher Secondary level we have all the core subjects and two elective subjects as options for study, these are Economics and Business Maths and Statistics. At the Degree level, we offer both Honours and Honours with Research Degree in the fourth year of UG. With initiatives from faculties and support from students, our department conducts regular motivational and academic talks with invited guests along with an emphasis on co-curricular and extra-curricular activities of the students. Major initiatives includes: (1) Created Commerce Forum for the welfare of students.(2) Dedicated Departmental Library for the students of the department, (2) Hands-on training in various computer application software and (4) Regular interactions with students and providing necessary counselling to students.
