Department of Bengali:

The Department of Bengali in Cachar College started from the inception of the College in the session 1960-61. Since the inception of the Department, many eminent Professors like Dr.. Bhaktimadhab Chattopadhaya, Dr. Topodhir Bhattacharya have been a part of this Department and have contributed immensely towards both academic and cultural aspects. Bengali being the major vernacular language of the area, largely inhabited by Bengali speaking people. Most of the feeder schools of the College are Bengali Medium Institutions. So naturally, Bengali as a Major Indian Language was indispensable as a high profile subject having large in-flow of students. The Department has therefore been efficiently disseminating learning and reading the treasure of Bengali Literature through its course contents devised by different academic authorities from time to time over the decades. The Department of Bengali in course of time has expanded and included courses like MIL Course both for Arts and Commerce students, HCC core course and DSC/DSE course at the undergraduate level.
The focal point of our Department has been to develop the overall personalities of the students. That’s why the teachers of the Department always try to engage themselves in various activities so that they can nourish the students with new ideas and thoughts. The teachers of the Bengali Department try to promote all aspects. Various cultural events, Seminar, Lecture series, Theater performance etc are regularly arrange for the greater interest of the students. Teachers of the Department keep a close relationship with the students and also inspire them in every sphere. Every year, the department publishes a Departmental Journal ‘Prothom Alo’ having ISSN No 2331-1106 composed of selected and enriched articles.
